How do you identify?

Updated: Mar 6, 2024

Is there a reason you may not be enjoying the maturity and freedom which is your inheritance in Christ? Is it perhaps because you don't see yourself as you really are in Christ? Can you walk in victory every day, no matter what's going on around you?. Do you truly know the dramatic change that occurred in you the moment you trusted in Jesus. Do you see yourself the way God sees you? Are you identifying with the first Adam or the second Adam?

So then as through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one act of righteousness there resulted justification of life to all men (Romans 5:18).

Too many of us identify only with the first Adam, whose sad story led to our inheritance of the sinful fallen physical nature. But if you're a born again believer, that's where the similarity ends - there is absolutely no 'cry of woe' left for you. You are now identified with the last Adam, Jesus Christ. You are not in Adam; you are in Christ. You are seated with Christ in the heavenlies (Ephesians 2:6). The difference between the two Adams in your history is eternally profound, and you need to be sure you're identifying with the right one.

Christ, as the last Adam, had complete dependence on God the Father, indeed He was in the Father and the Father in Him. The first Adam was tempted to live independently of God, but Jesus was totally dependent on the Father (John 5:30; 6:57; 8:42; 14:10; 17:7). A second vital difference relates to spiritual life. Adam was born physically and spiritually alive but died spiritually when he sinned. Jesus was born spiritually alive as well as physically alive, and Jesus chose not to forfeit His spiritual life through sin. Jesus kept His spiritual life all the way to and through his death on the cross, and now in His resurrected, glorified body, Christ lives on today and for all eternity. And his victory is our own.

And there's ,even more.. Make a commitment to never looking at WHAT you have, despite how much the temptation, but look at WHO you have, on the inside, with you, directing and guiding you, talking with you directly. He's there literally all the time, and knows everything, As the second Adam, Jesus demonstrated when he was on this earth not only that it doesn't matter what we have, but that His sacrifice gave us the One that does matter; Himself; and God the Father; and the Holy Spirit. What a gift of completion! All is in us! (Colossians 1::27-28) That's the mystery revealed, the power arrived, the life within, the answer to every earthly situation, and the road to everything eternal for the believer! Identify with the second Adam and start to live as Jesus did, walking in power, above the fray, deep in compassion, and serving with humility. Be a picture of the totality of the Agape Love of God! .

Are you identifying with Jesus Christ, the last Adam, today?
